IT'S ABOUT TIME for BTS POETRY!

As you plan for the new school year, consider incorporating poetry into your daily lessons.  The potential for skills learned through poetry is nearly limitless.

Capitalize on the excitement of new school supplies to introduce this poem.  Then select from the Poetry Possibilities (lesson suggestions) the activities to employ.  This poem, for example, could be used to introduce/review adjectives and adverbs.  Challenge your learners to write an acrostic poem about their new pencils.  This poem is also great for studying punctuation.  Lots of possibilities here!

One of my favorite BTS activities is creating concrete poems about our new supplies.  These poems can quickly fill a blank bulletin board while celebrating your poets' efforts.

Use this poem to introduce similies.  Students can then write an acrostic poem about themselves that incorporates similies.  You'll learn a lot about your pupils.

Back to School Poetry Possibilities offers a variety of poems and a plethora of lessons.  Each poem has a custom designed teaching point about poetic elements and forms.  The Possibilities are tailor-made skills lessons, activities, and poetry writing prompts.  The range of reading levels makes this unit appropriate to both primary and intermediate level classes.  It also offers differentiated instruction to accommodate students reading above or below grade level.  AND, this week this poetry unit is discounted 20%.

IT'S ABOUT TIME, TEACHERS, for CREATIVE THINKING CHALLENGES

  • Are you looking for weekly challenges to your learners' creative thinking?
  • Would you love it to be a home assignment?
  • Would you be thrilled to get a full year of challenges that are print and go?
If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then you should check out Destination: Imagination via Creative Thinking.

This eclectic collection of activities was created for use in my gifted and talented classrooms. The goal is to promote the 4 traits of gifted childrenfluency, flexibility, elaboration, and originality. But really, what child wouldn't benefit from working on those aspects? I have found these projects works very well with heterogeneous groups and have successfully used them with 1st - 5th graders.

These challenges are also a wonderful home-school connection that directs eager parents to work with their children in a constructive manner. Another benefit is that children learn to share their products with purpose and confidence.

All of the project assignments are ready to print and send home.  Also included are notes to the teacher to help ensure the success of your students.  These notes are based on years of experience with the challenges.

TRY IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT.   You can get a better sense of what this project offers by checking out this FREE activity that is included in Destination: Imagination via Creative Thinking Vol. 2:

WILD ABOUT LEARNING FREEBIE!

It's about time, teachers, for a FREEBIE!

Here's what you will find in Wild About Learning Posters and Garlands:

These 8 posters are letter sized. I plan to print them on cardstock and post several of them with my welcome back banner. All of this will go on the big, cement block wall outside my classroom; a dull space if ever there was one.

But the display still needs some pizzazz. So I made some garlands of forest elements. I will make several leaf and acorn garlands for the beginning of school. Later, I will provide the components for my students to create garlands of their own. To that end, I have included black line elements so the students can color them to suit themselves. Or, maybe I'll print them on construction paper for the kiddos. I haven't decided yet.

Here's my display so far:

[Wild About Learning... does not include the pennants.  They are available here.  Neither are the toadstools included.]

It is my pleasure to offer this product for FREE. If you download it, I would greatly appreciate feedback on TPT.  TYIA

A quick trip to Michael's scored this wreath for my forest theme.
While it definitely has a fall feel, I think I can justify leaving it up all year since it blends with my theme. The room number part is just a simple sign I printed and glued to the back of the wreath. It's much more appealing than the room sign my school provides. It's the little things...

This product joins a plethora of other Forest Friends resources. Check them out here!
