Start the School Year on the Right Foot

Start the new school year off on the right foot with one sole-full day of activities.

This thematic unit is the perfect way to introduce your learners to each other, classroom  procedures, expectations, as well as multiple curricular disciplines.

Kick off  the new school year by having a SNEAKER DAY!  Invite your students to wear sneakers to school, then fill the day with math, writing, art, and get acquainted activities.

Send a note home to alert parents to their child's need to wear sneakers.

Then use those sneakers for math:

  • collect data and create graphs
  • measurement
  • Venn diagrams
  • estimation
  • counting and computation
  • and much more!
Sneak in some ELA:
  • descriptive words
  • writing center with prompts
  • and more!
Step up to some arts and crafts:
  • sole-full rubbings
  • shoestring painting
  • and more!

You will love sneaking into a new year!

CRITICAL THINKING VOCABULARY FRACTIONS TASK CARDS

Combining disciplines makes teaching more efficient.  It's something I strive for when creating curricula.  VOCABULARY FRACTIONS are a prime example.

These task cards invite learners to exercise critical thinking while using fractional parts of words to create content specific vocabulary.  Students must deduce the correct word for the graphics, employ correct spelling, and even solve equivalent fractionsVOCABULARY FRACTIONS are available in print and digitally on TPT Easel.

The WORLD GEOGRAPHY series is brand new.  The first 3 sets focus on country names, while the last 2 are about geography terms.  Each set contains 20 task cards, an answer key, a storage label, and a direction placard.

IT'S NATIONAL POETRY MONTH!

It's about time, teachers, for National Poetry Month.  So let's create some poetry!

A fun project for poetry month is to create a collage of spring things.  (It's also a good way to use up construction paper scraps.)

Once the collage is completed, invite your lower grade poets to make a 5 senses poem.  Provide a formula for the poem:

    I see ____________________________

    I hear ___________________________

    I smell __________________________

    I feel ____________________________

    I taste ___________________________

Attach the poems to the collages and display them for the world to enjoy.

Older students could write triplets, quatrains, haikus, acrostics, ... really any form of poetry you'd like.

If you would like help with types of poetry, you may like this set of Poetry Posters --
