COMPUTATION RIDDLES

 

The first quarter of the school year invokes review as students and teachers dust away the cobwebs. Make review more fun with COMPUTATION RIDDLES.   

Start the year off with SCHOOL RIDDLES. 

These math computation task cards give your 2nd and 3rd grade students addition within 100 practice while solving riddles about school.

To begin, they solve a set of addition problems.  Then use those sums to decode the answers to the riddles.

Stock your math center with the 20 task cards.  Also available for digital learning on TPT Easel.

Post them around the classroom for RIDDLES AROUND THE ROOM. Travelling around the room allows movement that reduces restlessness and improves learning.

Use them for math journal prompts. Just print the cards in grayscale.

TRIADS units have 20 task cards each.  They are provided in color (minimally to save your printing costs), but will print well if you change your printer settings to grayscale.  

If you opt for grayscale printing, I recommend that you print the cards on colorful cardstock.  It will add pizzazz to your task cards.

Triads are great for center work. I include a critical thinking center in my daily rotations. They exercise the upper 3 levels of Bloom's Taxonomy: analysis, synthesis, and creation.                 

TRIADS are also perfect for an anchor activity or a fast finisher's challenge.

Carry several TRIADS task cards with you when you travel to special classes.  If there is a delay before students can enter, use TRIADS for a sponge activity.

Back to School Planning

 

It's about time to start planning for the new school year. A great way to start the school year is with these fun poems and the many POSSIBILITIES for using them in your classroom.

From allaying 1st day jitters to establishing rules & procedures for the year, these poems will get your students off to a great start!

Incorporate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) with poems like the one above.  SEL will have a great impact on everything from developing strong, positive relationships to academic achievement. Reassure all of your students that everyone has some jitters at the start of a new school year.  Your timid learners will especially appreciate knowing that you will not be cruel if they have forgotten something.

Above is another poem that deals with feelings, this time focusing on learning new things and how frustrating that can be.  Use the POETRY POSSIBILITIES to lay the foundation for employing patience and practice.

Use the following poem to introduce concrete poetry.  Invite your poets to try one of their own. When poetry is this fun, everyone loves it!
