IT'S ABOUT TIME, TEACHERS, for PUNS!

PUN is a delightful literary device that can inject humor into writing. PUNS provide word play with homophones or homonyms.

Create a research activity with these task cards. Using print or electronic thesauri and dictionaries, students will hone research skills and build vocabulary. All of the following resources are available in print and digitally on TPT Easel.

TRY THEM BEFORE YOU BUY THEM!

The challenge in this FREE activity is to create a word that sounds similar to BUMBLEBEE and fulfills the clue on the task card.

With these 40 task cards, students are asked to find a word that ends with –ANT and fulfills the clue.

This set of 40 task cards requires your learners to find a word that contains the /bÄ“/ sound, or similar, and fulfills the clue.

Inject some fun into your lessons with these PUN TASK CARDS!

IT'S ABOUT TIME for TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!

September 19 is TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!

Avast! Are ye looking for some resources to use on this special day? Try this antonym activity:

Ye have found a pirate’s booty in this resource. In AHOY! ANTONYMS Literacy Center, students match words with their opposites. These materials are provided in print and digitally on TPT Easel.

You might also like to introduce the rules of syllabication with help from these pirates:

Display these syllables anchor charts in your classroom to make the syllable division rules easy for children to understand. Every poster includes an example word to further illustrate the rule. Syllable division is included in every elementary level of CCSS.

IT'S ABOUT TIME for FALL POETRY!

Do you incorporate poetry into your daily lessons?  The potential for skills learned through poetry is nearly limitless.  Many students love learning through poetry because the text is less intimidating.

Check out these examples:

If you thought Johnny Appleseed poems were only for primary classes, you would be wrong.  The polysyllabic words are a great challenge to intermediate learners.  There are words with 5 syllables!  Have fun with this vocabulary by unscrambling them using the printable provided.  You can also work on fact and opinion with the another printable.

This apple poem can be used as a mentor text for couplets.  Or, focus on adjectives, creating an apple adjective tree.  Exercise verbal fluency and have fun brainstorming ways we use apples.

There are sooooo many possibilities for teaching with poetry.  Find these poems, lesson activities, and more in FALL POETRY POSSIBILITIES.
